Collection: Carl Hansen & Son

Carl Hansen & Son is a distinguished Danish family-owned furniture company with a legacy spanning over a century, deeply intertwined with the Danish Modern movement.

It was founded in 1908 by master cabinetmaker Carl Hansen in Odense, Denmark. Initially, the company focused on bespoke, handcrafted furniture. The global economic challenges of the 1930s impacted the business, and Carl's son, Holger Hansen, took the helm in 1934, navigating the company through difficult times.

A pivotal moment in the company's history came in 1949 when Holger Hansen initiated a collaboration with the then-emerging designer Hans J. Wegner. This partnership proved transformative. Wegner designed several iconic pieces specifically for Carl Hansen & Son, including the now world-renowned Wishbone Chair (CH24), which has been in continuous production since 1950 and remains their best-selling product. This collaboration, along with other designs by Wegner and contemporaries like Kaare Klint, Arne Jacobsen, and Børge Mogensen, firmly established Carl Hansen & Son as a leading manufacturer of high-quality Danish modern furniture.

After Holger's passing, his wife Ella Hansen remarkably ran the company, ensuring its continuity as a family business. Today, the company is led by the third generation, Knud Erik Hansen, grandson of the founder. Under his leadership, Carl Hansen & Son has significantly expanded its international presence while maintaining its core commitment to uncompromising craftsmanship, timeless design, and sustainable practices. They continue to produce authentic re-editions of their classic pieces and also collaborate with contemporary designers, bridging tradition with innovation.
